Autism Awareness Day
Yesterday was Autism Awareness Day - April 2nd
I took to social media (TikTok) to have a bit of a moan!
I don’t want anymore Autistic Awareness provided for Allistic (non-Autistic) people by Allistic people.
I want Acceptance by the Allistic world so that I can be myself without fear of Judgement.
I have been campaigning for sometime that Autistic Awareness Training should be delivered by someone who is Autistic so that the training is authentic. I cannot speak for deaf people or their experience of the world because I am not deaf. I can imagine what it is like to be deaf. I can imagine the difficulties of navigating a hearing world. However, I cannot truly understand their life experience in my hearing world. So, I don’t do Deaf Awareness Training.
But, I am Autistic and I and other Autistic people can deliver training on Autism Awareness.
I also advocate for myself and other Autistics to have acceptance in the allistic world without being patronised or undermined or treated as if we are lesser humans than allistics.
Let’s have more Autistic Acceptance -Please!
